ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City Tour – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest

Begin your unforgettable adventure as our driver picks you up from the airport or your hotel. Following a detailed briefing, start your Kigali city tour, visiting key sites such as the Presidential Palace Museum, city markets, the Genocide Memorial Center, and a souvenir shop. Enjoy a drive through prominent buildings and suburbs. After the city tour, embark on a scenic journey to Nyungwe National Park, renowned for its chimpanzee tracking, primate viewing, nature walks, birding, and forest canopy walk.

Start early with breakfast and attend the briefing on chimpanzee tracking at the Nyungwe Forest headquarters. Led by experienced guides and rangers, embark on a 2 to 6-hour trek, encountering not only chimpanzees but also the diverse wildlife within Nyungwe Forest. After tracking, return to your lodge for lunch. In the late afternoon, explore the forest canopy on a captivating walk, offering a bird’s-eye view of the park.

Enjoy a leisurely morning with breakfast and set off for Lake Kivu. Upon arrival at your hotel, check-in and indulge in lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a boat trip across Lake Kivu, hopping between its islands. Relax by the lakeshore or opt for a refreshing swim in the evening.

Accommodation: Paradise Marahide (BLD)

Wake up at your own pace, enjoy breakfast, and join your guide for a final tour around Lake Kivu. Spot birds and primates while touring the lake, and visit fishing villages to engage with the local fishermen. Lake Kivu offers a picturesque setting with opportunities to interact with the local communities. Conclude the lake tour and commence the journey to Volcanoes National Park.

Accommodation: Bambou Gorilla Lodge (BLD)

An early start is crucial as you attend the briefing for gorilla trekking at 7:00 am in Musanze. The briefing provides essential information about gorilla trekking rules and assigns a gorilla group based on your fitness and age. Spend one hour with the gorillas, then return for lunch and rest. In the evening, visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, now known as the Gorilla Guardians Village, for traditional dance performances and cultural insights.

Wake up early for another exciting adventure and head to the park for a briefing on golden monkey trekking. Then start the trek to encounter these adorable but endangered primates thriving on the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes. After the trek, return to the starting point, where you will rejoin your guide for the drive back to Kigali. Enjoy stunning views of the countryside along the way. The driver will drop you off at the airport for departure or at your hotel if you are staying in Rwanda.
